“When asked who or why I was doing this shoot for, my answer is “me.” Sure, my husband is going to flip when he sees these beautiful photos, but truth, I did it for me. Making a bold choice like taking boudoir photos for “no reason” other than to find another way of appreciating my body, makes me feel so empowered.
We all learn at a young age and from our environment. I am first generation Vietnamese. As a little girl, my culture told me that beauty means you had to be quiet, conservative and a certain size (petite). I struggled with my insecurities and became deathly shy for many years because I did not fit the mold. When I got older I found my voice and start a self healing/fitness journey. So I wanted these photos to be a reminder that I have worked hard for this body and embrace every flaw because that’s what makes me...ME. I am loud, strong, sexy and I make no apologies. These photos are a reminder to myself that I am worth my own attention.
I came across Candace Gurley Photography on social media and became obsessed with her work. Love how she captures beauty in every one that she photographs. Once the session was booked, Candace sent me a questionnaire so that we, together can customize my shoot. Do I prefer a more natural light make up look or glammed out dramatic look? What parts of my body would I Iove to highlight and what parts am I not so comfortable to show. Every detail of the photo shoot is planned in advanced so that you will know what to expect. On the day of my shoot, I was a nervous wreck. Crissy (hair and makeup Artist) greeted meet and right away we chatted like old girlfriends playing dress up. Once hair and makeup was done and lingerie and heels are on... WOW! That feeling that you look sexy AF. This must be how JLo feels everyday. Now I still felt awkward at first because I was so worried my posing would look weird but I trusted Candace. Candace has an eye for beautiful lines and curves on a woman. She coached me on how to pose, where to put my hands and where to look. She also adjusted my jewelry and made sure every curl was on point. Candace made me feel SO CONFIDENT and beautiful through the entire shoot.
The reveal was my favorite moment. I lost it and cried (and I’m not an overly emotional person). But seeing these gorgeous photos that Candace capture, I could not believe this is me. Not me 10 or 20 year ago in my prime... me right now. The colors, the lighting, the dramatic black and white shots... and woah, I DO have a nice booty. The quality of photography is incredible.
I definitely recommend a boudoir shoot for any woman who wants to get in touch with her body, her femininity, her wild side, herself. It’s so so worth it to treat yourself and love who you are.
